Strong borders are necessary to protect us from those who would harm us, but what will become of the people who have already risked death and imprisonment just to be able to work for a living here? How does it benefit us to deny them citizenship? Granting them citizenship would, with the stroke of a pen, both require them to pay taxes and require their employers to account for them, thereby canceling out the two chief complaints against them: that they drain our public services and that their employment undermines our economy.
