Joe Duffy Show in Ireland

Lord above is all I can say. Joe Duffy on RTE in Ireland was trying to do a program on undocumented Irish this week when his show was interrupted by some members of the lunatic fringe - one guy likened coming to the US as house-breaking; and another man said he would advocate the death penalty if that's what the US wanted. The incredible lack of sympathy - or indeed awareness - from the callers would probably put most people off ever thinking of returning home. Thankfully, other callers, including Celine Kennelly from the Irish Immigration Pastoral Center injected some sense into the discussion.

Unbelievable! The land of begrudgers is still alive and well in Ireland. The attitude of the bigoted people who called in leaves me totally speechless and disappointed in the "modern Ireland" they keep boasting about. Ireland and its attitudes doesn't sound that great from where I'm standing.
Having listened to the show, I am more determined than ever to stick with the ILIR and get this job done once and for all.

I istened to the show and am very interested as to how someone can be an undocumented Irish person for all those years, pay taxes, get a driver's licence for over 20 years, I have been living here for 5 years and can't even get a bank account - I want to know how that can happen.

All in all the american people are wonderful and really love the Irish people and can't understand why we can't get a green card - at the end of the day, we don't want to become a citizen, just the right to work, pay taxes, drive and open bank accounts - now what is wrong with that. This weekend was my Mam's 70th birthday and everyone is there except me, and my brother is a citizen here and sponsored me back in 2004 and he is at home now - we don't and I won't work illegal but I am afraid to go home.
