Irish, US bishops' agencies unite for immigration reform

Officials of the Irish Episcopal Commission for Emigrants (IECE) met with lobbyists in Washington on March 7 to plan a campaign for reform of US immigration laws, for the benefit of undocumented Irish immigrants working in America.

Speaking on behalf of the campaign, Father Alan Hilliard reported that the IECE has helped to arrange lobbying visits with 110 members of the US Congress in the past year, sometimes coordinating the visits with other immigration-reform groups. “We will keep up the pressure,” he vowed.
